Street Law

aka Il cittadino si ribella

When there’s no where else to turn.
Directed by Enzo G. Castellari
Featuring Franco Nero, Giancarlo Prete, Barbara Bach, Renzo Palmer, Massimo Vanni, Romano Puppo and many more!

It’s the Italy of the seventies. The country is suffering under organized crime and corruption. Carlo Antonelli (Franco Nero) is just a random average citizen to be at the wrong place the wrong time, when being brutally beaten up and taken as hostage during a violent robbery. Left for dead and picked up by the police, he cannot believe how they don’t seem to care about getting justice and simply drop the case. With revenge on his mind, Carlo starts his pursuit, blackmailing local thug Tommy (Giancarlo Prete) to get him in touch with the underworld so he can take the law into his own hands.

Loves of the Living Dead
Directed by Peter Mak Tai-Kit
Featuring Mark Cheng Ho-Nam, Ann Bridgewater, Charine Chan Ka-Ling, Peter Mak Tai-Kit, Raymond Wong Pak-Ming, Hsu Kuei-Ying, Siu Foo-Dau and many more!

Who you’re gonna call if you’re in Hong Kong? The Ghostbusters?! No fellow movie lovers. They’ve got a S.W.A.T. of their own in Abracadabra – or should I call ’em S.W.A.S.T.? Yes, those Ninjas in Action remove their masquerade just to replace ’em with swastika frontlets. Also part of that far east ritual is pinning handwritten notes to the undead skulls and keep ’em at bay with a couple of strings until they’re trapped in a box.

aka Il Giorno Della Civetta (The Day of the Owl)

Mafia Means Murder!
Directed by Damiano Damiani
Featuring Claudia Cardinale, Franco Nero, Lee J. Cobb, Tano Cimarosa, Nehemiah Persoff, Ennio Balbo and many more!

Northern Italian police officer Captain Bellodi (Franco Nero) has been stationed in Sicily. His faith in judicial power is proven to be quixotic by the locals, when he is trying to solve a homicide case and is confronted with an undermined system. The ascendancy of Don Mariano Arena (Lee J. Cobb) seems to cloak everything in silence. It seems Bellodi is the only one it cuts no ice with. Nobody wants to be involved, except key figure Rosa Nicolosi (Claudia Cardinale) who is looking for her husband, lost since the act. Being close in, Bellodi has to realize how hopeless his lonesome operation turns out to be.

The Street Where Starlets Are Made!
Directed by Joe Dante & Allan Arkush
Featuring Candice Rialson, Mary Woronov, Rita George, Jeffrey Kramer, Dick Miller, Richard Doran, Tara Strohmeier, Paul Bartel and many more!

What if someone edited a movie out of scenes from The Big Doll House, Women In Cages, Night of the Cobra Woman and other flicks of that type? Well, Joe Dante and Allan Arkush did. It was before the time you would associate a name especially like Dante with the big screen and blockbusters like Gremlins for example. Both of them had been editing trailers for the infamous Roger Corman back in the seventies, when they thought they could do pictures like that – maybe even better. If you do think Corman was supporting young talents or abusing them for a quick buck, he at least didn’t say no. With $50,000 in their hands and a key to Roger Corman’s garage, Joe Dante and Allan Arkush after brief consideration remembered, how directors made full features literally out of nothing. Just count how many releases have been editing in the original One Million B.C., like Bert I. Gordon did on King Dinosaur, where he barely shot more than two couples in diving suits and something like a cardboard tube for the rocket. The keyword here is stock footage.

Hey it’s me again, awsom50. The Mediatoilets guy. With this in the pipe I just remembered I had written some reviews for the Grindhouse Database some time ago. And I thought, well, I could post reviews here and maybe other slacker stuff. So this is not really limited. We’ll see what happens. Hope you enjoy.
